Acts
2:1-11
It was the Day of Pentecost, 50 days after the Passover. Pentecost, the Feast of Harvest or Weeks, is the second of three great Jewish festivals and is celebrated at the end of the barley harvest. This was a joyous time of giving great thanks to God and bringing to Him the first fruits of the harvest. According to Jewish Law, all adult Jewish men would come from wherever they were living to Jerusalem and personally be in attendance during this celebration.
In the early morning of that day, 120 of Jesus’ disciples were gathered together, waiting and praying. Suddenly a mighty wind came from heaven and filled the house they were in and what looked like tongues of fire rested on each disciple. And they were fully filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages about the great things that God has done through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son Jesus.
On Pentecost, every disciple was immersed in and filled with the Spirit. None were left out. This is the highest honour that God gives to man – that He dwells in us. The impact of the Spirit’s power was evident. These uneducated Galileans spoke in languages that they did not know. The message of the many languages was clear – the Good News of Jesus is for people everywhere from all languages!
On Pentecost Sunday, God’s Holy Spirit was given to man and thousands were saved as God’s Word was shared in the various languages of the hearers by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Personal Reflections
- God has come to live in us. He speaks our languages. What does it mean for you that the Almighty God is in you and speaks your language?
- What is your part to bring the Gospel to those that still do not have His Word in their language that they may come to know the God who seeks to live in us?
This Pentecost season join other Christ followers to give God’s Word to those who do not have the Good News in their language.
