In the annals of biblical history, Ezekiel stands out as a figure marked not only by the tumult of his times but also by his resolute commitment to conveying God’s message in a world teetering on the brink of chaos, a calling that continues to inspire the mission of illumiNations Asia. As the Israelites wrestled with their identity during the Babylonian exile, Ezekiel’s vision came as both warning and hope — a call to reconnect with God amidst a society that had been turned away, and had turned away, themes that echo across many Impact Stories and reflections shared during Week 2 devotionals.
This divine exchange highlights the importance of receiving God’s Word in our hearts:
“Stand up, son of man,” said the voice. “I want to speak with you.” The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words. — Ezekiel 2:1–2 (NLT)
God commanded Ezekiel, urging him to listen carefully to the unfolding realities around him. His commissioning underscores a universal truth: God desires to speak to every nation, tribe, people, and language, a conviction often explored through faith and inspiration stories and highlighted during movements such as Pentecost 2025.
But God knew many would not hear His words, and Ezekiel was instructed to use visual cues — lying on his side to symbolize punishment, fasting to depict suffering, and shaving his head to express impending judgment. These vivid actions were vital, illuminating the messages for those unable to hear.
In Indo China, where the barriers of communication persist, similar challenges emerge. The intricate tapestry of sign languages has made Bible translation a formidable endeavor — often relegated to an afterthought. But efforts are underway to create accessible versions of Scripture for the Deaf, ensuring that God’s Word reaches all corners, a mission reflected in Impact Stories from Indonesia and other marginalized regions.
Each effort amplifies a profound truth: God’s Word must be conveyed in languages that resonate, a calling embraced by those who join the movement and support access through giving initiatives. As you contemplate giving a verse, consider the potential it holds, for every gift has the power to echo through the lives it touches, a global priority affirmed by organizations such as the Wycliffe Global Alliance.
Words That Speak to the Heart
Phuong, a 40-year-old Jay woman from northern Vietnam, rejoiced upon learning linguists were translating the Bible into her heart language. Her Christian faith, embraced at age 25, had kindled a desire to understand God’s Word more deeply and share it with her community, but language barriers hindered this mission.
When translators provided her with the Gospel of Mark in Jay, previously distant Scriptures became intimate and personal. The words resonated deeply, transforming her understanding and strengthening her relationship with God, echoing testimonies like those shared in Continuing to Sow in Different Ways.
Life as a Christian in her predominantly animist community brought challenges and rejection. Nevertheless, Phuong found support through marriage to a fellow Jay Christian, and together they joined a house church in a nearby province, building connections with believers facing similar circumstances.
Now passionate about the Bible translation project, Phuong eagerly shares Jay scriptures with family, friends, and neighbors, hoping they’ll discover the same joy and peace that transformed her life. Her story exemplifies the profound impact of accessing spiritual texts in one’s heart language.
Your gift today can help bring this same life-changing experience to many more waiting to hear God speak in their own language.
